General Comments

Hey folks,

An update on my book - Blue Collar Apologetics: How to Explain and Defend Catholic Teaching Using Common Sense, Simple Logic, and the Bible.  It is on the proofreader's desk which, as I understand it, is the last leg of its journey before printing.  Apparently, though, the proofreader has a number of other volumes to go through before mine, so the folks at EWTN/Sophia Press are telling me that the release date is tentatively scheduled for September.  Please keep this project in your prayers.

Please pray for me to have a safe trip to Mobile and back today and tomorrow, and that my family will be safe while I'm gone.  And pray that my talk tonight to supporters of the Catholic radio station down there - Archangel Radio 1410 AM - will be a fruitful one.

And, this is a landmark issue...Apologetics for the Masses #400!  I think I've got a few more left in me...by the grace of God...

Introduction

In the last newsletter I replied to Mike Gendron's response, such as it was, to my taking apart his anti-Catholic pamphlet, Which Jesus Do You Trust?  Maybe I should write a counter-pamphlet entitled, Which Jesus Do You Trust - the Word of Gendron's Jesus, or the Word of God's Jesus?

Anyway, this week I will finish up with the last little bit of his response that I didn't get to last week, by way of asking him some questions about his disparaging of what he calls the "conditional life" offered by the "Catholic Jesus".  I asked these questions in my original response to his pamphlet in Issue #397, but, of course, he didn't answer them in his response back to me.  I think he might have a phobia about answering questions.  Even so, I'll ask him those questions and a few others as well.  He asked me 14 questions, I'm asking him just a few more than that, but most of mine are simple yes/no questions.  I responded to every single one of his questions with a direct and straightforward answer. Do you think he will do the same with the questions I ask him?  (Hint: Ain't no way that's going to happen...)

Feel free to send these questions to him and his wife, Jane.  I think they enjoy hearing from you.  Their email addresses are on their "ministry" website, but I'll give them to you here so you don't have to go looking for them: mike@proclaimingthegospel.org; jane@proclaimingthegospel.org.

Challenge/Response/Strategy

Mike Gendron
I pray you will repent of your conditional life through the RCC and trust the promises of God for eternal life.

My Response
Mike, according to your fallible interpretation of Scripture, you claim there are no conditions - whatsoever! - to one gaining eternal life.  None!  Thus, you ridicule the "conditional life" offered by the “Catholic Jesus”.  Given that, Mr. Gendron, I have a few questions for you:

1) Is it a condition of your salvation that you must repent of your sins (Luke 5:32, 15:7; Acts 11:18)...yes or no?
2) Is it a condition of your salvation that you must confess your sins (1 John 1:9)...yes or no?
3) Is it a condition of your salvation that you must do the will of God (Matthew 7:21)...yes or no?
4) Is it a condition of your salvation that you must forgive others of their sins against you (Matthew 6:14-15)...yes or no?
5) Is it a condition of your salvation that you must eat the flesh and drink the blood of the Son of man (John 6:53)...yes or no?
6) Is it a condition of your salvation that you must make an act of faith in God (Hebrews 11:6)...yes or no?
7) Is it a condition of your salvation that you must be holy (Hebrews 12:14)...yes or no?
8) Is it a condition of your salvation that you must keep the commandments (Matthew 19:16-17)...yes or no?
9) Is it a condition of your salvation that you must love God and love others (1 John 2:9-11; Matthew 22:37-40)...yes or no?
10) If there are no conditions for your salvation (according to the Word of Gendron), then is everyone saved...yes or no?  If not, why not?

11) Will God give eternal life to the person who, by patience in well-doing, seeks for glory and honor and immortality (Rom 2:6-7)...yes or no?
12) How did Jesus answer the question, "What good deed must I do to have eternal life?" (Matthew 19:16).  How would you answer that question?
13) Do you believe the writer of the Gospel of Mark was inspired by the Holy Spirit...yes or no? If, yes, why do you believe that? (In other words, whose witness are you relying on for that?)
14) 1 Timothy 2:4 says that God wants all men to be saved, so are all men saved...yes or no?  If, no, why not?
15) Can a non-believer be a branch of the vine that is Christ (John 15:1-2)...yes or no?
16) Why does Jesus tell believers to pluck out their eye or cut off their hand to avoid sin and being sent to Hell (Matthew 5:29-30), if there is nothing that believers can do to cause them to lose their salvation?
17) Was the Prodigal Son saved before he left his father's house and squandered his inheritance (Luke 15:11-32)...yes or no?
18) Since you do not, by your own admission, have the ability to infallibly interpret Scripture, could some of your beliefs about the Catholic Church, which are based on your fallible interpretations of Scripture, be wrong...yes or no?

That should suffice for now, Mr. Gendron.  I can answer all of these questions combined in just a minute or two, so I imagine you, with your prodigious knowledge of Scripture, shouldn't have too much trouble with them.  And, after you answer yes or no, please feel free to explain your answer as much as you would like.  If you answer these, and would like to then ask me some more questions, please feel free to send them my way.

I hope all of you have a great week!
